🚆 4K InterCity cab ride on a historic railway route followed by High-speed (Switzerland Basel-Bern)
作者:Railway Emotions
Welcome aboard the IC61 in Basel SBB! The Hauenstein base tunnel, Switzerlands first base tunnel, is once again closed for maintenance work. This means that our train is diverted over the mountain instead of through it. A quiet and rural single-track section up the hill brings us to the tunnel portal of Switzerlands first (longer) railway tunnel. Construction started in 1853, and the tunnel was completed by 1858. The majority of the line used to be double-track, which is evident in tunnels and on bridges that are wide enough for two tracks. Today, the route is single-track and only used by the local train S9 ("Läufelfingerli"), a few cargo trains, and when the base tunnel is closed, as it is case today. On the other side of the hill, we reach Olten, an important hub and large train station. After we leave Olten, we'll enter the high-speed-line (NBS) between Rothrist and Mattstetten, where our train reaches speeds of up to 200km/h. It's only a quick ride before we reach Bern, where the train changes direction of travel, including a change of drivers.
A cab ride with many contrasts awaits you. Sit back and enjoy the ride!
